Founder of Warm Hearts & Homes
Growing up, I’ve experienced living in poverty. I know what it’s like to have no gas, electricity, and no hot water. I watched my parents struggle tenaciously to provide our family with the best quality of living. Often times, it’s the financial disadvantages that create these economic hardships. For me, at times that meant boiling water on the electric stove to take a warm bath– and that was okay. Their sacrifice was the key to my compromise. Experiencing those trials have afforded me the opportunity to help others. It is of no good service for me to dwell on this earth knowing there are families struggling that I can be a blessing to. There are hundreds of families in Philadelphia alone who are doing their best to sustain a good quality of living for their family.
I found Warm Hearts & Homes in January 2015 to give back to the community that raised me during my youth. It was the community’s resources that provided food, shelter, and utilities when my family needed it the most. As I sat and contemplated on my New Year resolution, I thought to myself, this year I am going to make it about someone else. Often times we recite things we want to change about ourselves, but I decided to find ways to help my community—and that is CHANGE.
It is my pleasure and civic duty to help raise the quality of living for our inner city youth. My goal for WH&H is to lighten the burden of families who have recently settled in the long-term/permanent housing by adding a touch of love and warmth through soft furnishing and home accents. It is hard enough planning how to allocate finances to maintain the household, our resources will take a few items off the receipt.
I am excited about serving families in the Philadelphia community and honored to be in the position to do so. I want to help give families back the power to succeed and with your help we can impact hundreds of homes across the region.
