Growing up, I’ve experienced living in poverty. I know what it’s like to have no gas, electricity, or hot water. I’ve watched my parents struggle to provide our family with the best quality of living. Often times, it’s the financial disadvantages that create these economic hardships. For me, at times that meant boiling water on the kerosene heater to take a warm bath– and that was okay- their sacrifice was the key to my compromise. Experiencing those trials have afforded me the opportunity to help others.

My father was the sole provider of my family and he took care of my mother, sisters, and grandchildren. He had been suffering with kidney failure and needed to attend dialysis three times a week. Unfortunately, his fight came to an end on April 17, 2014, instantly my family was faced with an unpredictable circumstance– homelessness. Because my father was the sole provider and the rental lease was in his name, the landlord forced my mom, sister, and children out the home causing the family to be displaced and in need of emergency shelter. I had a chance to see for myself how homelessness can happen and how hundreds of families had experienced the same thing.

When I began to build the programs for the organization, I grew excited about the opportunities to create housewarming for families that just received their housing–It was a rewarding feeling to give back in that way. To see the tears of someone who felt God answered their prayers is invaluable. To me, it was more than giving furniture, presenting gifts, and celebrating, it was knowing that now the children can come home to a warm and comfortable place to have family dinners, study,  and just spend time with their loved one.

I believe I found my purpose! To bring families together through a creative housewarming experience. It inspires me to create a dream home that any family can hope for. It is my mission to give families a head start on their journey to a new and fulfilled life by providing home accents and soft furnishings that will help develop the confidence and motivation needed to sustain a quality living for themselves and their dependents.
